The Current In Design Awards for Excellence in Architecture in Acadiana Call for Entries

Submissions are now being accepted for The Current In Design Awards for Excellence in Architecture+Design in Acadiana. Produced by The Current non-profit digital newsroom in collaboration with the South Louisiana Chapter of the AIA, categories include residential and commercial architecture, historic preservation/adaptive re-use and master planning/urban design in the region. These awards were last presented in 2017.

Projects completed between January of 2017 and December of 2022 in Lafayette and the five surrounding parishes are eligible (Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermilion). Architectural and design firms are not required to be domiciled within those parishes to submit entries.

For entry, commercial projects require an architect’s license; residential projects do not. Submissions are accepted in digital format only and entry fees are determined by category and discounted for members of the AIA. Marlon Blackwell Architects of Fayetteville, AR, will serve as jurors. Blackwell is a practicing architect in Fayetteville, AR, and the E. Fay Jones Distinguished Professor at the University of Arkansas. He will head up the team, which includes firm Principal and Director of Interiors Meryati Johari Blackwell; Katherine Lashley, the 2022 AIA Arkansas Emerging Professional+Young Architect award winner; project architect Ethan Kaplan and project architect Zach Grewe, who oversees many of the international projects for the State Department within the firm’s portfolio.

The Current In Design Awards will be presented at a luncheon event on March 29, 2023, at the UL Union in Lafayette. The keynote speaker will be announced soon.
